April is National Grilled Cheese Month, and to celebrate we would like to share with you some of our favorite National Grilled Cheese Month Recipes, courtesy of La Brea Bakery. Today Grilled Cheese Sandwiches whether served in a restaurant or at home are elevated to include more than just American cheese melted between two slices of Wonder Bread. In fact, it is quite common to see Grilled Cheese Sandwiches on the menu featuring artisan bread and made with several different kinds of cheeses, craft meats and sometimes even unique sauces or preserves. The Grilled Cheese remains a classic lunchtime favorite.
In my opinion, a well crafted Grilled Cheese Sandwich always starts out using bread with a firm outer crust and a soft, airy center. I prefer to include a few different types of cheeses; aged cheeses such as Parmesan, 3 Year Cheddar, and Gruyere. Grilled to melted perfection using butter to get that golden brown, crunchy outer finish. I would pair this sandwich with a bowl of homemade tomato bisque. The saltiness of the grilled cheese pairs nicely with the sweet creaminess of the tomato bisque.
